Find me on:

Godfrey & Wing, Inc has received from Handtmann GmbH, a leading German aluminum die caster, a contract to supply a fully automated single piece flow vacuum impregnation system.  The Continuous-Advanced Powertrain Impregnation System (C-APi) is an automated single-piece flow impregnation unit incorporating Godfrey & Wing’s patented Dry Vacuum & Pressure (DVP) impregnation process.  Starting in 2017, Handtmann will use the C-APi system to seal highly machined hybrid transmission cases at the headquarters in Beiberach, Germany.

Continuous Advanced Powertrain Impregnation System

The C-APi system includes the most advanced porosity sealing technology available.  The system is tended by a seven axis ABB robot.   This allows the system to operate without labor and minimal maintenance.   The C-APi will integrate with the customer’s CNC machining, washing and leak testing.  This production integration allows for single part flow throughout the manufacturing process.

The contract also includes the supply of Godfrey & Wing’s high performance sealant and on-going technical support.  The sealant is approved by the U.S. Department of Defense and specified by automotive OEM’s worldwide.

 Transmission Case Production

This contract represents the third vacuum impregnation system purchased by Handtmann since 2013. All purchased systems have a small footprint and modular construction, which allow the customer to integrate vacuum impregnation directly into their production and assembly.  The first vacuum impregnation system that was installed in 2013 has reliably produced sealed castings with 0 PPM from contamination or handling damage.
