Use of Godfrey & Wing’s Continuous Flow Impregnation Expands with Chrysler’s V-6 Engine Program

Chrysler recently expanded their use of Godfrey & Wing’s Continuous Flow Impregnation (CFi) both in the U.S. and internationally to meet increasing demand.

Use of Godfrey & Wing’s CFi technology was added to facilities serving Chrysler’s Trenton South Engine Plant in Michigan and the Saltillo Engine Plant in Mexico. Godfrey & Wing’s Continuous Flow Impregnation (CFi) has been used on the PentaStar V-6 engine for over a year.

Chrysler’s V-6 engines feature an aluminum die cast block, dual variable valve timing, and a two-stage oil pump. The end result is an expected across-the-board V-6 fuel efficiency improvement of six to eight percent - in addition to new levels of V-6 power, performance and refinement.

After considering all traditional impregnation options, Godfrey & Wing's CFi fully automated vacuum impregnation was selected to seal Chrysler’s aluminum die cast blocks. Given the highly machined state of the engine blocks prior to vacuum impregnation, it was imperative that the blocks employ the most robust impregnation technology available while eliminating failure modes and reducing manufacturing risks.

With a zero tolerance for contamination and damage, coupled with a low leak specification, the challenge could only be met with the advances found in the Godfrey & Wing CFi.

In addition the CFi is fully integrated into the pre-machining line, affording an enormous savings in WIP and transportation.
